Chiropractic Explained

The Slovakian Chiropractic Association was set up in 2018 to represent chiropractors that wish to work either full or part time in Slovakia.

The SKCA believes that without a healthy working spine and nervous system, the body is unable to function at its optimum level. Its members believe that by offering expert drug-free spinal health care and lifestyle advice, SKCA chiropractors can help you to lead and maintain a healthy life.

As a member of the public you can be assured that all members have graduated from an approved chiropractic college with a minimum of 4 years education with either a BSc(Hons) or Masters Degree or Doctorate in Chiropractic.

The SKCA also regulates Animal Chiropractic in Slovakia. We have chosen as practitioners, educated firstly as human Chiropractors, that all Animal Chiropractors must have then fulfilled the basic educational levels as set out by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association and must have graduated from an approved animal chiropractic course provider.

We believe that it is our role to protect and advance the principles of vitalistic chiropractic. Vitalism means that the origin and phenomena of life are dependent on a force of principle distinct from the purely chemical or physical forces. In short, as our nervous system controls everything in the body and if we wish to stay healthy, then the areas of spinal dysfunction need to be working correctly to allow the nervous system to work at its optimum level and keep the body as healthy as it can be. This dysfunction is called a chiropractic subluxation.

As the organisation grows and develops we intend to engage with government stakeholders, the media and public to promote and provide increased access to vitalistic chiropractic care, whilst maintaining the high standards of care the profession has slowly started to develop.

We uphold the idea that health is the natural state for the human being and that the body is designed, or has evolved in such a way that it is always striving to return to a state of balanced health. This is based on attaining a balance of physical, chemical and emotional health. We encourage anyone that wishes to understand this concept further to look into the works of Bruce Lipton PhD

Here at the SKCA, we support the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) paradigm 1996 that was then adapted for the World Federation of Chiropractors 2001 and the World Health Organisation in 2005:

"Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, doctors of chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient."

ACC 1996

There are obviously limitations to any practice and there are times when drugs or surgery may be appropriate.

“A health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health. There is an emphasis on manual techniques, including joint adjustment and/or manipulation with a particular focus on subluxations”.

The ACC continues to foster a unique, distinct chiropractic profession that serves as a health care discipline for all and advocates a profession that generates, develops, and utilizes the highest level of evidence possible in the provision of effective, prudent, and cost-conscious patient evaluation and care. ACC Bylaw 2.0

Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses particular attention on the subluxation. ACC Bylaw 4.0

A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health. ACC Bylaw 4.0

A subluxation is evaluated, diagnosed, and managed through the use of chiropractic procedures based on the best available rational and empirical evidence. ACC Bylaw 4.0

Subluxation is a fundamental axiom of the Chiropractic profession. The World Federation of Chiropractors (WFC) policy statement 2001 reaffirms the use of the term vertebral subluxation and it is defined succinctly and accepted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) 2005.

Vitalism
We recognise that all living organisms are sustained by an innate intelligence, which is both different from and greater than physical and chemical forces. Further, we believe innate intelligence is an expression of universal intelligence.
Holism
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Neural
We ascribe to the concept that the nervous system is the major coordinator
Supremacy
and also that the nervous system regulates all our bodily systems.
Conservative
Our belief in the body’s ability to heal itself logically implies that the best care in the least invasive care.
Humanism
We ascribe to the belief that individuals have immutable rights.

We recognize and respect a universal intelligence in all matter and an innate intelligence within a living organism that drives to preserve life and, if uninhibited, will express optimal potential.

We know that the nervous system has a central role in regulating, coordinating and integrating the functions of the entire organism.

We recognize that interference to innate intelligence (subluxation) diminishes healing capacity, with an alteration in the dynamic interrelationship between mental, physical and social aspects of the whole person.

The art of Chiropractic encourages optimal expression of health by the detection, removal (adjustment) and prevention of nervous system interference.

Our members will primarily aim to use drugless, minimally invasive techniques to adjust identified subluxations throughout an individual’s lifetime.

We commit to assist the process of self-empowerment with compassion and care, whilst respecting each person’s dignity, uniqueness and freedom of choice.

In the words of Albert Einstein “Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe - a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble,” Nikola Tesla “My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration. I have not penetrated into the secrets of this core, but I know that it exists,” and Max Planck - “All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force… We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.”

We believe there is a force within this universe and as such an innate intelligence that runs within the human body. When the body is subluxated there is a lessening of the body’s ability to function and hence heal. By clearing these subluxations the body has the ability to upregulate itself and heal in a more efficient manner. As chiropractors, we do this by adjusting the spinal subluxations and allowing this to happen as best as the body will allow.
